On 30 January 2024, Global Health Symposium at the Inselspital presented the recently conducted survey on humanitarian projects of medicine in Bern, Switzerland.

Nine projects were presented by Island employees. Dr Cornelia Staehelin, Prof. Philippe schucht, Dr. Gunar Günther, Dr. Anne Jachmann, Dr. Iciar Sanchez-Albisua, Dr. Mazen Zeino, Dr. Kristina Keitel and Dr. Binaya Kumar Shrestha introduced and unfolded their respective projects.

On his presentation, Dr. Shrestha highlighted the Swiss Nepal Cancer Hospital Project in Gandaki Province, Nepal.

Professor. Marcel Tanner, Director Emeritus of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, in his lecture «Global public health in Switzerland – challenges for university medicine», emphasized the benefits of further development of such projects towards integrative system changes.

The occasion has already served to cross-networking these projects to exploit synergies and establish new collaborations. In addition, the desire was expressed to establish a superior support organization, to arrange focused periods for these commitments and to establish a common platform within the island group.
